An
appeals court of
Smolensk released from the SIZO a 60-year-old woman follower of
the Jehovah's
Witnesses (the organization is banned in the RF), Tatiana
Galkevich, to house
arrest, the website of the religious organization reports.
It is
noteworthy that
the woman spent six months in the SIZO. She is suspected of
participation in extremist
activity (part 2 of article 282.2 of the CC).
"According
to
the account of the investigation, the woman participated in
group prayers to 'Jehovah'
and discussed the interpretation of the Bible . . . and she
provided the
premises of her apartment for conduction conspiratorial
meetings," the
website reports.
According
to
information from the religious organization, eight persons have
been involved
in criminal cases in Smolensk connected with the Jehovah's
Witnesses.
In April 2017, the Supreme Court ruled the Administrative Center of Jehovah's Witnesses in Russia to be an extremist organization and prohibited its activity on the territory of the RF. (tr. by PDS, posted 3 December 2019)
