St Albans/Bern [tedNEWS/CD-EUDNews]. When ‘Uncertainty’ was chosen as the theme for a GAiN network project back in February 2019, leaders were somewhat nervous as to whether this was the right decision. Little did they know what the future held – and how appropriate the series now will be as countries slowly work to come out of COVID-19 lockdown into an uncertain new world.

Even more beneficial is that the project grew with positive contributions from far beyond the borders of Europe. The resulting products will thus bring hope to a world that has never been more uncertain.

Five documentaries will share the stories of ten individuals from across the world who have had to deal with challenging life choices – whether facing a life sentence for murder, the challenges of employment, or seeking what the future holds as a refugee, the desperate hope to be able to start a family, or the issue of facing the future with a debilitating illness. The stories are real, but so is the hope that they bring into an uncertain world. Additionally, two feature films, a series of twenty short video clips, and a book will accompany the series. These will be released on a weekly basis starting Saturday evening, 30 May at a GAiN Europe online meet-up.

Here is a taster of one film. UNCERTAINTY - The movie - Trailer from Stimme der Hoffnung on Vimeo.

Uncertainty – the Movie is a short film about fears, life decisions, doubts and faith. It tells the story of a young woman who, faced with an important decision that must be made for her life, works through a series of fears and traumas that have accompanied her throughout her life. A project of the South American Division, the film symbolically portrays the way in which we, as humans, relate to our internal fears and how uncertainty about the future creates the perfect setting for fears to appear and, in too many cases, dominate us. Fear blocks us.

Fear makes us doubt. Fear lies to us. Can uncertainty be the best school to help us learn to live with our fears?

GAiN Europe was cancelled as a physical event due to the coronavirus, but those registered to attend will now have opportunity to join a special ‘Webinar’ get together on Saturday, 30 May at 19:00 CET (18:00 London). The webinar will also be streamed on YouTube for a larger audience who may wish to join in an interactive programme that will include worship, updates on exciting new projects, ideas for the future, and how to best work with a network which has strengthened and expanded during the Corona crisis. Exact details for the Webinar will be available in the next week.
