ARCHBISHOP
KONDRUSIEWICZ
STRIPPED OF BELORUSSIAN PASSPORT
Interfax-Religiia,

September 2020
The head
of the Roman
Catholic Church in Belorussia, Archbishop Tadeusz Kindrusiewicz,
was denied
entry into the republic from Poland because of an invalid
passport, a report on
the official website of the Roman Catholic Church in Belorussia
says, citing a
reply received from the State Border Committee.
"The
letter over
the signature of the chairman of the State Border Committee of
Belarus, Anatoli
Lappo, indicates the following reason for the actions of border
guards, who
prevented the metropolitan of Minsk and Mogilev from entering
Belarus: 'We
inform you that you were not allowed across the state boundary
because of a
decision by agencies of internal affairs ruling that the
passport belonging to
you as a citizen of the republic of Belarus (number indicated)
is invalid,'"
the report says.
As
reported, on 31
August, Archbishop Kondrusiewicz was refused entry without an
explanation of
the reasons. Belorussian President Alexander Lukashenko later
declared that
Kondrusiewicz was not allowed into the country because "he
received an
assignment on the Polish side." (tr. by PDS, posted 14 September
