Social Media Conversations:

This month, we posted about Pentecostals in the Americas, religious tradition differences in watching football, religious congregations in major cities (Chicago, Los Angeles, and Omaha), religious adherence rates in Madagascar over time, belief in Heaven and Hell by state, how social movements have been connected to religion, and how four different religion measures vary by state.

We also posted about webinars, conferences, new research, and other opportunities of interest to our readers.

Anniversaries of Historical Events:

In September, there were a number of significant anniversaries of events in religious history. These included Antoinette Brown being ordained by Congregationalists (1853), the Birmingham Church Bombing (1963), the Islamic Center of America opening in Dearborn, Michigan (1963), and the 20th anniversary of 9/11 (2001).

In addition to reading about these single events, you can delve into substantially more religious history by viewing any of our nine interactive timelines. These include specific timelines dedicated to religious groups, women, race/ethnicity, and more.
Feature of the Month:
Syntax repository

One of the constant challenges of analyzing religion data is properly coding religious variables into usable categorization schemes. Thankfully, there is no need to reinvent the wheel each time someone does this, and there are a few popular schemes already out there (e.g., "RELTRAD"). We have sample code from several scholars that can help you implement these coding schemes in your own analyses in no time.

Check them out here and keep your research going! They are available as both SPSS and Stata files.
