RACISM IN THE MEDIA - MANUFACTURING HATE
“Racism could not be woven into the fabric of the whole ecosystem of dominant worldviews without the complicity of the media and media constructed and supposed ideals models. Though appearing benign in the context of general information sharing, news and medias outlets have not been neutral when it comes to picturing role models.
The matrix of dominations forged in eras of colonialism and perpetrated during coloniality could not spread its global tentacles without the relentless propaganda of Eurocentric supremacism through the media. Colorism has been an overt vehicle, in plain sight, to ensure that blacks, indigenous and people of color (BIPOC) would remain far from representations of a supposed ideal.
Experts from multidisciplinary competency will point to and unweave the threads that make the web of justifications for discriminations, marginalization, and promotion of ethnic superiority. The webinar will also aim at debunking the myths of polygenesis, the curse of black people, the mark of Cain and other criminal interpretations of sacred texts. A perpetuation of a destructive myth can only be seen as an instrument of hate, violence, death, and genocides. The organizers of this Webinar hope to contribute to point people of all ethnic backgrounds to what can correct perceptions and give access to true and full humanity to all human beings. The future of peaceful coexistence in the dignity of difference calls for healthy human relations healed from centuries of stigmatization and transgenerational traumas. The decolonization of minds is not a luxury but a necessity for peace to prevail. Decoloniality in reference to medias is a must in the process.” Dr. Ganoune Diop
