TEHRAN (IQNA) – The International Union for Muslim Scholars (IUMS) urged the Muslim Ummah and its leaders to defend Al-Aqsa Mosque in the face of raids by Zionist settlers and their provocations.

IUMS Secretary General Sheikh Ali al-Qaradaghi in a speech strongly condemned the settlers’ recent moves and desecration of the holy site.

He urged Muslims and Islamic leaders to defend Al-Aqsa against the raids by the occupiers of Palestine, Anadolu Agency reported.

Al-Qaradaghi also called on noble people in the world and also international organizations to support the rights of Palestinians, Muslims and Arabs in Al-Aqsa Mosque, Al-Quds and all Palestinian lands.

He went on to say that he follows the developments in Al-Quds and the attempts by Zionist occupiers to establish dominance on the city with concern and sadness.

On Sunday, hundreds of Zionist settlers stormed the Al-Aqsa Mosque Compound in occupied Jerusalem al-Quds under the protection of the Israeli police.

Earlier, an annual march by Israeli settlers through the Old City of Al-Quds on Sunday was regarded by Palestinians as a blatant provocation.

At least 145 Palestinians were injured during clashes with Israeli forces and settlers throughout the occupied West Bank, including East Al-Quds.

The march was originally scheduled to be held on May 10, but Israel's right-wing groups shelved the controversial parade after police refused to authorize it and the Hamas resistance movement warned of the consequences.

The entire West Bank witnesses an upsurge in unrest every year prompted by the so-called “March of the Flags,” which marks Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and East al-Quds in 1967.
