UKRAINIAN SCHISMATICS DEMAND STRIPPING SEE FROM PATRIARCH KIRILL
The schismatic Orthodox Church of Ukraine (PTsU) demanded that Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew remove Patriarch of Moscow and all-Rus Kirill from his patriarchal see.
"The Holy Synod approved the draft of a letter to Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and primates of local Orthodox churches introduced by the synodal Theological and Liturgical Commission regarding holding Russian Patriarch Kirill canonically accountable and depriving him of the patriarchal see," an announcement of the results of a session of the PTsU Synod, which was posted on its website, says.
In its statement, the PTsU also urged that the "doctrine of the 'Russian world,'" which allegedly exists in the RPTs [Russian Orthodox Church], be recognized as heretical.
The structure bearing the name "Orthodox Church of Ukraine" was created in late 2018 on the initiative of former Ukrainian president Petro Poroshenko and Patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew as a counterweight to the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. In January 2019, the patriarchate of Constantinople granted the PTsU "a tomos concerning autocephaly." However the PTsU actually is subordinate to the patriarchate of Constantinople, and the majority of the 15 local Orthodox churches of the world have not recognized it as canonical.
