At least 14 were killed and 28 injured in a religious school attack that took place in northwestern Pakistan on Friday, police said.
The school was affiliated with the Shiites, The New York Times reported.
A suicide bomber and two other attackers stormed the school grounds, located in Peshawar, just as Friday prayers were about to start. A guard intervened and a gunfire battle ensued. The suicide bomber was wounded but managed to enter the school grounds and detonate his explosive pack, the Times said.
Televised images of the attack showed a trail of injured being transported to area hospitals and pools of blood on the school’s floor. The area is rife with sectarian violence, and attacks by extremist Sunnis against Shiite neighbors are common.
