TEHRAN (IQNA) – An official with Egypt’s Al-Azhar said the support from Muslims all over the world for Al-Aqsa Mosque, al-Quds and Palestine originates from their religious beliefs.

Conference in Support of Jerusalem al-Quds in Cairo

Speaking at a conference held in Cairo by the Arab League and the State of Palestine in support of Jerusalem al-Quds, Mohamed al-Zuwaini said the Holy Prophet’s (PBUH) Mi’raj (ascension to heaven) from Al-Aqsa Mosque is part of the beliefs of Muslims, Al-Ahram daily reported.

He said that God in the Quran has linked Al-Aqsa Mosque and Masjid al-Haram in Mecca and in the following verses has talked about the corruption of Bani Isra’il.

It could be a reference to the need for Muslims to protect Al-Aqsa Mosque in the face of the corruption, al-Zuwaini went on to say

He also stressed that liberation of Al-Aqsa Mosque and its return to Muslims is a promise in the Book of God and will certainly happen.

The Conference in Support of Jerusalem al-Quds kicked off Sunday at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo to discuss support to the Palestinians of al-Quds living under Israeli occupation’s colonial rule.

The conference, which comes in implementation of the recommendations of the recent Algiers Summit, aims to support and strengthen the steadfastness of the Palestinian people of al-Quds as the first line of defense for the occupied city on behalf of the Arab and Islamic nations.

The conference also presents the issue of al-Quds to the world public opinion, especially in view of the ongoing systematic Israeli violations and crimes that aim to empty the city of its Palestinian people, in addition to attempts to Judaize Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Arab League said that it was keen that the economic and investment dimension be present in parallel with the legal axis, given the fact that promoting investment in al-Quds and its Old City is a key to reinforcing the resilience and steadfastness of the city’s Palestinian people.
