Al Khalifa regime bans political sermons in mosques

The Al Khalifa regime banned political speeches and slogans in Bahrain’s mosques.

AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA): The Al Khalifa regime banned political speeches and slogans in Bahrain’s mosques.

Bahrain’s ministry of justice, Islamic affairs and Waqf in a statement warned Friday prayer leaders and religious preachers in the country against talking about political issues.

It specifically banned criticism of the normalization with the Zionist regime of Israel, the Manama Post reported.

The ministry said it continually monitors activities in mosques in cooperation with the Sunni and Shia Waqf departments to ensure what it called “peace in mosques for worshippers to say prayers and respect for the sanctities of the places of worship”.

The statement deplored the recurrences of “actions violating the law” in the Friday prayer sermons of one of the country’s mosques.

It also claimed that chanting political slogans in mosques will lead to provocation and that it runs counter to the sanctity of the places of worship.

The statement came after the prayer leader of Imam Sadiq (AS) Mosque in Diraz, west of Manama, lately talked about political and economic issues in his Friday prayer sermons.

Growing unemployment, rising prices, political prisoners, the issue of Palestine, and Bahraini people’s opposition to normalization of ties with the Israeli regime were among the topics raised in the sermons.

In recent months, Bahraini authorities have also intensified their monitoring of the activities of Husseiniyas (Shia religious centers) in the country,

Ahead of the demise anniversary of Imam Khomeini (RA), which was marked on June 4, managers of some of these centers were summoned to Bahrain’s interior ministry and warned that the centers will be closed down if they hold ceremony to commemorate the late founder of the Islamic Republic.
