Korean Religions: No more nuclear power, it will destroy us
Seoul (AsiaNews) - Korean society "must open its eyes and stop
the nuclear power generation and accomplish a change in our life towards
ecological democracy and respect for life, if we recognize our responsibility
for the next generations, let alone the unethical practice and danger in
relation to the nuclear power generation" said the representative of the Catholic Church to the meeting on nuclear energy that the major religions held in Seoul in
conjunction with the Summit
of world powers on nuclear disarmament.
Present at meeting were representatives
of the Catholic and Protestant Churches,
traditional and Won Buddhism, it was held in Seoul under
the theme "Life and the
post-nuclear society". The seminar was held to give greater
emphasis to the point of view of
religion in awakening consciences
to the dangers and side effects, often harmful, of the use of atomic energy.

Gi-seok, secretary of the Subcommittee for Development of the Korean Bishops' Conference, Reverend Jang Yun-jae, director of the Institute for Ecology of the Korean Church, the
venerable Beob-Eung, the Buddhist Association for Bioethics and the venerable Choi Seo-yeon, Won Solidarity ecologist
were present. The discussion
was chaired by Professor Ho-yeong Jeong,
Department of Philosophy, University of Chungbuk.
