MPs must rise above religion,caste,serve people: Speaker

The Lok Sabha unanimously passed a resolution to uphold and maintain the dignity,sanctity and supremacy of Parliament. The resolution of the Special Sitting also sought to enhance the accountability of government through oversight of Parliament and “redidicate Parliamentarians in the sacred task”.

“…Remembering with gratitude,the immense sacrifices made by our freedom fighters in the nation’s struggle for independence,and the stellar role played by the founding fathers of the Constitution in mandating equality,fraternity,justice,brotherhood of mankind and the uplift of under-privileged and downtrodden sections of society,” the resolution said.

The Speaker said the Parliamentarians cannot become oblivious to the fact that the legislations,policies and programmes deliberated upon in the House decide the destiny of our people.

“We are fortunate that democracy in India has blossomed into a strong and vibrant form of governance despite all the trials and tribulations. Our successful experiment with democracy is revered and admired amongst the comity of nations,” Kumar said. “Our association with such a Parliament not only instils in us a sense of pride but also places an onerous responsibility on our shoulders,” Kumar said adding Indian democracy draws its strength and essence from all cross sections of people without any discrimination.
