esponding to a violent attack on a Catholic prayer group committed last week outside a private residence in Sleman regency, Yogyakarta, President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono emphasized the need for religious tolerance on Monday.
"Religious freedom is a human right that we must all respect. No one must feel that their religion is better than another's," he said through his Twitter account @SBYudhoyono.
He encouraged everyone to compete with one another in trying to do good and to avoid harming one another.
In the attack on May 29, Julius Felicianus, director of the Galang Press publishing house and the house's owner, was severely injured by a group of assailants clad in traditional Muslim dress. Julius is still recovering at the Panti Rapih Hospital.
Three other people were also injured in the attack, and Kompas TV journalist Michael Aryawan's camera was taken by the assailants.
The Yogyakarta Police have arrested one of the assailants, identified as KH, who is Julius' neighbor. (fss)
