The San Jose Bahá’í Center is hosting the showing of the documentary film Education Under Fire followed by a group discussion on May 19 from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m.

The documentary deals with students in Iran who are denied access to higher education because of their religion.

The documentary was produced in conjunction with Amnesty International.

Elise Auerbach, Iran specialist for Amnesty International USA, said of the film, “One of the most powerful human documentaries I have ever seen, Education Under Fire is sure to galvanize viewers who will be exposed to an outrage that until now has received little attention–the systematic denial of an entire religious community of the right to pursue higher education in their own country.”

Bahá’ís are the largest religious minority in Iran, with more than 300,000 practitioners.

In addition to denying them access to higher education, the government discourages employers from hiring them, and some have been subjected to arbitrary arrests, torture and death.

The San Jose Bahá’í Center is at 945 Willow St.

The presentation is informational only; no funds will be requested or accepted in conjunction with this event.
