Row over Kader Khan's movie
All India Shia Personal Law Board has urged the Centre to impose a ban on the making of a movie based on the sacrifice made by 72 Muslims in Karbala to protect Islam saying the film would hurt the community's religious sentiments.
The board has written a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Information & Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni appealing to them to stop production of the film based on Karbala keeping in view the sentiments of Muslims, AISPLB president Maulana Mirza Mohammad Athar said in a statement.

The script of the movie has been written by noted writer and actor Kader Khan and an announcement in this regard was made recently.
Around 1400 years ago Hazrat Imam Hussain, grandson of Prophet Mohammad, along with his 18 family members and 54 supporters sacrificed their lives at Karbala in Iraq fighting against cruel ruler Yazeed to save Islam, the Maulana said.
Now a film based on the event is being made in Bollywood in which all the characters, including Hazrat Imam Hussain, would be shown, he said.
Claiming that Muslims have great reverence for that extraordinary act of sacrifice, he said making of a film on such a sensitive issue related to faith would hurt the feelings of crores of Muslims.
Maulana said that from Islamic point of view making a film on such Islamic personalities was illegal and it was unjust on the basis of humanity and faith.
